To offer present customers higher capacity and to be able to service new customers, Schur Flexible has recently added considerably to the gravure printing capacity through the installation of a state-of-the-art Heliostar 2000 11 colour Gravure Press at Schur Flexible Benelux B.V. Schur Flexible Benelux is Center of Excellence of gravure printing of laminate solutions and tobacco pouch conversion of the flexible division of Danish based Schur.

Over the years, Schur Flexible Benelux has developed a considerable expertise in supplying the tobacco industry with sophisticated pouch constructions. The multinational customers comprise names like Imperial Tobacco, BAT Niemeyer, JTI, etc.

The new Heliostar 2000 was supplied by Windmöller & Hölscher. The press more than doubles the gravure print capacity of Schur Flexible Benelux B.V.

"Our customers in the tobacco sector demand constantly higher print quality and shorter leadtimes of their packaging", says Erwin Rutjes, General Manager of Schur Flexible Benelux B.V.

"Packaging is essential to a product's image and its success in the marketplace, and with this new equipment installed we will be in a position to enhance further the appearance of our products", Erwin Rutjes adds.

The machine is one of the first of this type installed in Europe and is equipped with the latest technology. This includes infra red pre-heating, which will relax the web before printing and thus avoid register problems. Among other interesting features is the drying capacity. As first and second colours normally are full colours, these ink stations require higher drying capacity. Therefore these stations are equiped with extended drying facilities. Furthermore, the machine is prepared to have cold seal equipment installed.
