Collaboration with Orkla Flisa on Jordan Green Clean
"We could have cooperated with different suppliers, but it was important to us to get the synergies of a holistic supplier. Schur has great experience with the engineering in a production line and they are amazing at creating packaging as well - that is why we teamed up with them”, Per Fodnæss, Factory Manager at Orkla Flisa.
If you do not know Orkla, the quick introduction is that they are Norway’s version of Procter and Gamble. Orkla is a leading supplier of branded goods and they operate with following four business areas: Orkla Foods, Orkla Confectionary & Snacks, Orkla Care, and Orkla Food Ingredients. Orkla’s primary market is The Nordic countries, The Baltic States, and chosen countries in Central-Europe. We are proud to present another successful result based on a close cooperation between Schur Pack Denmark, Schur Technology, and Orkla Flisa who is the producer of Jordan toothpicks. For several months, a group of dedicated Schur employees have worked on developing a customized packaging machine as well as a packaging for one of Orkla Flisa’s largest brands, Jordan Green Clean. You can see a film of the machine right here:
The scope of the project
The project is a step towards a stronger sustainable profile for Orkla. Jordan Green Clean is a line of dental care products made entirely by sustainable and reusable materials. Naturally, this also places a demand on the packaging. Thus, the first challenge was to develop a packaging machine that could be integrated into an already existing production line AND make sure that the machine could put 100 toothpicks into one box without using the well-known plastic container as a part of the final product. The next challenge was to make a packaging out of renewable material that was strong enough to replace the plastic container. These challenges were solved in close collaboration between Schur Technology, Schur Pack Denmark, and Orkla Flisa. In June, it all culminated, when six people from Orkla Flisa visited Schur Technology in Denmark for a Factory Acceptance Test, which went great. We had the chance to sit down with Per Fodnæss, Factory Manager at Orkla Flisa, and get Orkla’s reasons for choosing Schur as a co-creator on this project:
The Jordan Green Clean toothpicks are already available in different shops. However, right now three persons are doing the packaging manually to make sure that no plastic container is needed. To ensure a proper sealing, they are closing each pack with a label from Schur Labels. Yet another synergy. Once the packaging machine is installed, it will seal the packages. There is no doubt that the customized packaging machine will optimize the output and reduce labor costs. Therefore, Orkla Flisa is very happy with the teamwork:
