Schur Labels a/s opens new division near Copenhagen

Since 2019, labels have been an important part of Schur’s portfolio, which was also marked in 2021 by building a brand-new label factory in Horsens with a line of modern product equipment. And now, Schur is ready with the next milestone in our label adventure with the launch of a new division in Smørum, near Copenhagen. Kirsten Kjær Olesen, CEO of Schur Labels a/s, says: 

“The establishment of Schur Labels in Copenhagen is an important step in the strategic development of our label business, and it will strengthen our capabilities, capacity, and flexibility. The new production unit will improve our proximity to a wide range of our customers, which is something both we and they attach great importance to.” 

In Horsens, Schur Labels a/s employs 44 people in functions such as sales, customer service, pre-press, and production. Initially, the setup in Smørum will be smaller but with equally high level and full service. The two locations will work closely together, and the ambitions for growth by adding the new production unit on Zealand are high. Kirsten Kjær Olesen explains:  

 “When Schur decided to add Labels to our portfolio back in 2019, the decision was based on the ambition to strengthen our position as a total solution supplier within packaging. The synergies regarding our other packaging solutions are manifold, and over the last couple of years many of our customers have asked if we could open a production unit near Copenhagen. Therefore, we are quite confident about the timing of this expansion.”  

The two locations will operate as one unit under the management of Kirsten Olesen. The daily management of the facility in Smørum will be driven by Martin Fundal, who has many years of experience from the label industry. He will take the role as Business Development Manager, and he is excited to join this new adventure for Schur Labels:

As part of the industry, I have followed Schur’s journey within labels on the sideline, and how they have grown their presence on the Danish market. With the additional location in Smørum, I am certain that we will comply with a demand from existing as well as potential customers. And, with the close collaboration with the team in Horsens, I believe that we can ensure the best solutions for our customers”, Martin Fundal explains.  

The team in Smørum is already onboarded, and Schur Labels a/s expects to run their first production in Smørum ultimo November.
